Best Surfing Coasts in Israel

When thinking of the many spectacular outdoor attractions Israel has to offer, surfing may not be the first thing that comes to mind – but it should be. It is a very fun activity that people of all ages can try! Surf culture in Israel is everywhere. It is not uncommon to see a large group of surfers out on the water or take a getaway to one of Israel’s beautiful beaches to catch a wave or two. Prepare your surfboard and grab your wetsuit, because here are a few of the best beaches to ride some waves on the coast of Israel!

Hilton Beach

Known as the “mini-California” or as the “surfer’s paradise”, Hilton Beach is one of the most popular surf sites in Israel! It is constantly packed with eager surfers as it is located in the bustling city of Tel Aviv. This means it may take you some time before you finally hop on a wave. Waves at this site break both right and left because of the two jetties sheltering the water from Mediterranean currents and create waves allowing surfers of any level to enjoy. The dynamic waves and the vibrant atmosphere of Tel Aviv will make for one great day of surf.

Sokolov Beach

Now, if you are looking for more professional-grade waves, Sokolov Beach is the place for you. Located in the Galil, the city of Nahariyya boasts incredibly large waves due to its open design. Surfers who decide to face these waves should be prepared because when the winds are just right, the waves can reach a massive seven feet high! When you visit Sokolov Beach, drive up a quick 25 minutes to Rosh Hanikra and visit the exquisite caves; they were created by the powerful waves of the northern coast!

Zvulun Beach

Set just north of Tel Aviv, Zvulun is a well-liked site among locals. Herzliya houses Zvulun Beach, which is known for its consistent waves. The waves are sizable, the rides are long, and the beach is impossibly sandy!

A little tip… If you decide to ride these waves, go early in the morning, when the winds are suitable: you won’t regret it!

Goote’s Beach

This up and coming surf locale is located on the Southern part of the Israeli coastline in Ashkelon. Due to its multiple jetties, the waves are smaller which makes it ideal for potential surfers who want to learn the craft. However, this also provides great surfing during the winter as the jetties trap the waves. If you want a site that is less known so that you can practice your skills and become a pro, Goote’s Beach is the place to go!

Michmoret Beach

Located 50 minutes north of Tel Aviv, 50 minutes south of Haifa, and just outside of Netanya, the alluring Mikhmoret beach is another local favorite. Although surfing is just one of the main highlights of the beach, there are so many different things to do on this coast.

Go on the right day and you can experience calm waters and a serene place to relax, or go on a Saturday and your children can participate in arts and crafts while you experience these awesome waves for yourself!
