Gathering of Israel

“וְנָשָׂא נֵס לַגּוֹיִם, וְאָסַף נִדְחֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל; וּנְפֻצוֹת יְהוּדָה יְקַבֵּץ, מֵאַרְבַּע כַּנְפוֹת הָאָרֶץ.”
“And He will set up an ensign for the nations, and will assemble the dispersed of Israel, and gather together the scattered of Judah from the four corners of the earth.”

Isaiah 11:12

The Gathering of Israel ( Hebrew: קיבוץ גלויות) is a term used to describe the return of Jews to Israel, which is the goal of the Zionist movement.

In Biblical times, Moses made a promise to the People of Israel prior to their entrance to The Land of Israel. What Moses basically promised is that some day return all Jews from around the world will come to Israel.

This idea has become the foundation of the Zionist Movement and and the main idea of Israel’s Scroll of Independence.

Our Sages authored a special blessing, called the “Kibbutz Galuyot Blessing”, within the Shmona Esre prayer. It is one of the 13 blessings of appeal in the Shmona Esre prayer.

According to Maimonides, of all the assignments attributed to the messiah, the Torah attested to one: “then, the Lord, your God, will bring back your exiles”, the ingathering of the exiles of Israel, a Kibbutz Galuyot. The messiah would gather the exiles of Israel.
