Hidden and magical places in Jerusalem: Where the average tourist doesn’t go

These places we are going to tell you about are not for everyone. Some of them are a bit farther from the center, and some others are in the middle of residential neighborhoods of Jerusalem where most tourists don’t go on a regular base.

That being said, these unique places in Jerusalem are totally worth it. Take some time and make sure to visit them all.

Ein Kerem: Ein Kerem is a magical green place located very close to the Hadassah Hospital. Full of the greenest mountains, a few Roman Christian churches and the most delicious restaurants, Ein Kerem is a phenomenal option for an afternoon walk or for an early breakfast with your family.

Getting to Ein Kerem, which is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the country, from the center of Jerusalem is not that easy, but even if you take a not-so-cheap taxi ride there, you’ll have the time of your life in this lovely area, and also, some pictures that are going to assure you many likes.

Mahane Yehuda at night: Yes. You are right. This fantastic place is not hidden at all. We all have been to the traditional Jerusalem shuk, but have you been there at night? After all of the stores close and the folklore-like fruit sellers are back in their homes?

The Shuk Mahane Yehuda transforms into a completely different thing at night. Bars, art tours of the graffiti, many different groups of people playing musical instruments and a vibe that is totally different to the one we all experience during the day, while buying bananas or pita bread.

If you are around the Mahane Yehuda shuk on a Thursday night, step inside! You will experience a bohemian city and an unrepeatable, unique approach to street art.

Kiryat Yovel and The Monster: We mentioned Kiryat Yovel and one of its coffee shops when we gave you the best places in Israel for a date, and today we are mentioning it again. In the middle of this old but amazing Jerusalem neighborhood you’ll find a street game that has been the favorite of Israeli kids for decades already: The Monster (המפלצת: you can pronounce it “mee-fleh-tzet”).

This huge piece is located in a little park in the middle of Kiryat Yovel and it is called “The Monster” because it looks like one. Tongues that are slides, a back that are stairs, and a few arms where kids climb and climb offer parents a few hours (or at least minutes) of silence while their kids enjoy playing with the Monster of Jerusalem.

The Talpiot Promenade (Haas Promenade): This used to be a hidden gem until almost every bus of tourists decided to stop there and show every Jerusalem visitor a spectacular view of the city.

Anyway, just in case you haven’t been there yet, you have to save a few hours on your next trip in Jerusalem and visit this magical spot. You’ll have a privileged view of the old city and a big part of the modern city of Jerusalem, and in case you are travelling alone, don’t forget to bring a selfie stick because you won’t want to leave this area without a few pictures of the breathtaking Jerusalem landscape.

The German Colony of Jerusalem: Another area of the city where not many tourists go. The German Colony of Jerusalem offers you a delicious variety of culinary experiences; a lot of different cool and tasty restaurants, an excellent vibe to walk around at the night.

Remember when we mentioned the German Colony of Haifa? Well, the style is very similar, but here, you have more options to decide where to sit, eat, or drink a tasty something. In case you are looking for fast street food, this is not your area!

If you are travelling with your significant other and want to walk around a slightly quieter place, the German Colony of Jerusalem might be the ideal place for you.
